【摘要】:Thistestmethodcanbeusedtodeterminethemoisturecontent,ashcontent,andpercentorganicmatterinsoil.Thepercentorganicmatterisimportantinthefollowing:(1)classifyingpeatorotherorganicsoil,(2)geotechnicalandgeneralclassificationpurposes,and(3)whenpeatsarebeingevaluatedasafuelNote18212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting/sampling/inspection/etc.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverthemeasurementofmoisturecontent,ashcontent,andorganicmatterinpeatsandotherorganicsoils,suchasorganicclays,silts,andmucks.1.1.1MethodA0150;moistureisdeterminedbydryingpeatororganicsampleat105176;C.1.1.2MethodB0150;Alternativemoisturemethodwhichremovesthetotalmoistureintwosteps:(1)evaporationofmoistureatroomtemperature,(2)subsequentovendryingofairdriedsampleat105176;C.1.1.3MethodC0150;Ashcontentofapeatororganicsoilsampleisdeterminedbyignitingovendriedsamplefrommoisturecontentdeterminationinamufflefurnaceat440176;C.1.1.4MethodD0150;Ashcontentofapeatororganicsoilsampleisdeterminedbyignitingovendriedsamplefrommoisturecontentdeterminationinamufflefurnaceat750176;C.1.2Thistestmethodshouldbeusedforgeotechnicalandgeneralclassification.Inaddition,thetestmethodshouldbeusedwhenpeatsarebeingevaluatedforuseasafuel.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.UsePracticeD6026fordeterminingsignificantdigitstoreport.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
